Commentaires
Vergelijk S. selenitica (Gele halvemaanzweefvlieg): deze heeft meestal gelere vlekken die recht op het achterlijf liggen: ze komen aan de zijkant evenveel naar voren als in het midden. (waarneming.nl).
«Although it
is
known to overwinter in central Europe, there is little evidence of this from western Europe suggesting that it annual occurrence is totally dependent on immigration (Speight, 1998). In Ireland and western Scotland, the earliest records are in July, suggesting that it is does not usually manage to breed in these areas ( www.hoverfly.org). Op waarnemingen.be hoofdzakelijk juni-juli-aug. «Flight period of adults is from February to November in most of continental Europe» (syrphidae.lifedesks.org)
Biotopes
Les larves se nourrissent de pucerons.
«Larvae of S. pyrastri have been reported feeding on Adelgidae, Aphididae, Coccidae, Psyllidae and Thysanoptera (Rojo et al. 2003). Bloomfield (1900) reported them feeding on caterpillars of Plusia gamma (Lepidoptera), but Rojo et al. (2003) questioned its validity.» (syrphidae.lifedesks.org)
